North Jingle Pot

The Jingle Pot area is a scenic valley located near the base of Mt. Benson where the valley is split into the two neighborhoods of North and South Jingle Pot. Buyers who are looking for larger more rural properties but still want to be close to the city should start their search in North Jingle Pot. This neighbourhood is probably the largest in the city and is a mixture of acreages, farms and subdivisions. Being in the Northern part of the city you are relatively close to all the major shopping centers. Morrell Nature Sanctuary, Buttertubs Marsh, Vancouver Island University, the fabulous Nanaimo Aquatic Centre and the Nanaimo Ice Rinks are all but a few minutes away by car too.

Schools in the area include:

Mountain View Elementary - 2480 East Wellington Road, (250) 753-2831

Nanaimo Christian School - 198 Holland Road, (250) 754-4512

Nanaimo District Secondary School - 355 Wakesiah, (250) 740-2000

Parks in the area:

Ammonite Falls - Benson Creek Falls Regional Park - The most dramatic waterfall around Nanaimo is also one of its most secret ones. Ammonite Falls is one of three significant waterfalls in a series of canyons sliced deeply into the thick loam and sedimentary bedrock of Mount Benson's nether foothills. Aside from the stunning verticality of the place, the distinguishing characteristic of the park is its profusion of oceanic fossils. Many large shells are embedded in the stone of the riverbed (one at least is as big around as a vinyl record).

Mount Benson Regional Park - This stunning 212 hectare regional park is on the north east slopes of Mount Benson. Overlooking the City of Nanaimo, the park features rough mountainous terrain rising to the peak of Mount Benson. Views are panoramic: look out over Nanaimo to the Strait of Georgia and the mainland beyond or feast your eyes on the peaks of central Vancouver Island's highland mountains. Trails are steep and rough and hikers know to wear appropriate clothing and footwear and pack water and food for the trek.

Westwood Lake - Westwood Lake is a popular spot for children and adults to swim and/or sun bathe in the summer months, as well as mountain bikers and joggers doing the 6km trail around the lake in all kinds of weather. The picnic tables and playground make Westwood Lake a wonderful area to picnic and play in case the water is still too chilly. The trails surrounding the lake are great for hikers and nature lovers alike. Just steps away from the park is Westwood Lake Campgrounds, where you will find swimming beaches, miles of trails and a lake well stocked with trout.
